Born in Sarajevo.
Lives and works in Leipzig.
Jana Vuković is an artist whose art revolves around conversation, identity and our understanding of language and meaning. Carefully drawing lines, shapes, and dots, she creates memorable compositions, strong contrasts, and playful and vivid narrations. By maintaining a well measured balance between years of handcraft and intuition while layering colours or setting shapes, her compositions shed light on otherwise invisible aspects: feelings, viewpoints, meanings, language beyond words, movements and thoughts.
Due to her extreme sensibility and care about each line and dot she makes, all bear a strong emotion no matter how simple they seem. Over time her work became free from unnecessary strokes and colours, which resulted in formulations of mere and pure dedication. She developed finely-honed vigilance and attention to her own imaginary spaces and thought processes to shape — and if needed reshape — the next necessary step that lies within the work at hand. While constantly discovering new things with all her senses she uses them in wide variety of things she is interested in: artists books, printmaking, drawings and painting, and writing unusual poetry — still as playful as a child, even though thinking as a wise woman.
