Jana Vuković
Book Artist
Born in Sarajevo.
Lives and works in Leipzig.
Jana Vuković is a book artist whose art revolves around conversation, deconstruction, and our understanding of meaning and language.
During her studies she did not learn to follow the mainstream, therefore she quite often gets into troubles – emotional and creative ones as well. The consequences are clear: extreme sensibility and care about each line and dot she makes which all have a strong emotion no matter how simple they are. Her work became recognizable the moment she decided to get rid of all unnecessary strokes and colors, which brings her quite close to the minimalist style. Quite close, because minimalism is not the frame she works in, but rather a result of mere and pure dedication.
During her studies she did, in fact, learn to constantly discover new things with all her senses and to use them in wide variety of things she is interested in – artists books, printmaking, drawings and painting, and writing unusual poetry. She took part in numerous projects either as author, coauthor, or moral support. Since 2009 she has been working as a graphic designer for publishing houses worldwide and has more than five hundred designed books in her portfolio.
In 2015 she was a member of an award jury at the 13th International Biennial Of Illustration in Belgrade, Serbia and in the year 2016 she was a President of the jury for The Best Illustrated Book Published in Serbia – Neven Award.
Currently, she is volonteering at Book Making and Printing Workshop in Buchkindergarten, Leipzig and observes and learnes from children the process of making books.
She is still playful as a child, even though she thinks as a wise woman.
